We are delighted to be back on the west coast of Ireland, working once again with Mayo County Council, this time on the strategic development of outdoor recreation trails and facilities across the County.
This commission follows our successful delivery of the Sustainable Development and Visitor Management Plan for Keem Bay, the implementation of which we are pleased to say has resulted in significant positive benefits for this much loved beauty spot and important environmental habitat on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.
For this next project, our scope is spreading across the entire County as we seek to support local landowners, organisations and agencies to harness the potential of Mayo’s outdoors through the sustainable development of this county-wide outdoor recreation plan.
Defined as any recreation activities that take place in the natural environment such as walking, canoeing, mountain biking, orienteering and wild swimming etc. this collaborative outdoor recreation plan will again focus on sustainable development guided by regenerative development principles, balancing people and nature, and will outline a range of shared objectives for the County to be delivered through practical multi-stakeholder actions.
Destination Assessment
TOPOSOPHY will conduct a fresh perspective analysis of existing trails, facilities and outdoor recreation hubs across the County.
SWOT Analysis
We will map key assets, assess current strengths and identify gaps to highlight future opportunities and shape investment priorities.
Mixed-Method Stakeholder Consultation
We will ensure there is multi-stakeholder buy-in and shared commitment on planning, development and management of recreation assets and facilities across the county in the future. We will do this through online surveys, in-person workshops and 1:1 consultations.
Multi-Stakeholder Action Plan
Aligned to the six strategic themes outlined in the National Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors strategy, this implementation framework will act as the roadmap for delivery for sustainable development and management of outdoor recreation across County Mayo over the next five years.
Shared Vision
Ultimately this plan will ensure there is synergy and a shared vision on how resources and investment in outdoor recreation should be prioritised across County Mayo in the future.
The final output will be a shared vision and actionable delivery plan to guide the strategic development and management of outdoor recreation in County Mayo over the next five years. We look forward to sharing a comprehensive progress report during the project, providing key insights and a detailed assessment of the strategy's long-term impact and effectiveness.
